hair pulling syncope

It was a Tuesday morning and I was doing Morgan's hair in my bathroom like I do every morning.  We were chatting (apparently I was telling a gross story) while I was doing a French braid around Morgan' head.  I was about 3/4 of the way done when all of a sudden it was like Morgan lost her balance and start falling sideways.  At first, I thought she was just messing around and then I realized she wasn't.  I started yelling for Chris and then shouted at her, "Morgan, Morgan, are you ok?"  She immediately came to and was very scared, as was I.  I sat her down and tried to talk to her about what had happened.  After lots of questions for her, it seems as though she started to get dizzy and then her vision started to go black.  She said she couldn't see herself in the mirror anymore.  I didn't know any of this was happening and then she fell sideways.  I caught her and she was fine, just scared.  I got her some water and then some food thinking it might be low blood sugar or perhaps she was just standing with her knees locked up and got faint.   She acted completely fine after.  Ate breakfast and was bouncing around like her normal self so I sent her to school.  It was a completely weird occurrence. I was still concerned though and decided to just email her dr.  In the meantime, I talked to several friends who helped calm my anxiety.  My friend Melissa told me about a thing her nieces have where they can faint when doing hair.  She said it was called hair pulling syncope.   Well, later that evening, I received an email back from our Doctor.  She, as well, thought this weird episode could be chalked up to hair grooming or hair-pulling syncope. I had never heard of such a thing in my entire life. I had a nice discussion with all the kids about what to do in a situation such as this where you feel like you might faint.   We talked about sitting down and getting blood to your head by putting you feet in the air.  We will now do any braids on Morgan's hair while she is sitting in a chair and not standing.  We talked a lot about what happened. Morgan said she was also grossed out by the story I was telling CHRIS so perhaps it was a combination of several different things!
