Bedtime Reading

Nighttime reading seems to work the best for our family.  All the kids have required reading time each day.  Bed time seems to present the fewest distractions and everyone can read quietly in their own beds.  After reaching her Accelerated Reader goal last trimester, Morgan decided to spend the next few weeks reading some chapter books.  Chapter books have always seemed to be an overwhelming jump for my kids.  They like the security of shorter books, shorter AR quizzes and instant points added to their goal.  The thought of spending days to read one book and then possibly not earning many points because you score poorly on the quiz, was just too overwhelming.  I'm proud of Morgan though and her willingness to try it.  I think she even surprised herself.  She read it much quicker than she thought and finished it in 2 days.  She got a 60% on the test which earned her a percentage of the points for that book.  I'm excited for her to continue reading and to get better scores on the tests and she grows as a reader.

Grant is still loving anything written by Rick Riordan and is currently reading his second series.  He has other books ready and waiting.  Still trying to find out where Loren's interests lie when it comes to reading.  She finished the whole diary of a wimpy kid book series and awesome scores helped her exceed her AR goal.  Now we just have to find something else that will keep her interested in reading!
