A Sunset Moment

In the book, "Hands Free Mama," the author talks about the profound transformation every time she chose to be hands free, even if just for a short time.  She says that with each effort to be fully present with a loved one, she experienced a sense of peace, fulfillment, and gratititude that was foreign to her hurried and distracted existence.  She said that meaningless tasks she once deemed important, were quickly demoted on the priority list.  Nothing was more important than being with the God-given gift of the person in front of her.

I read these words and longed for that same feeling.  I waited for my first opportunity to experience the same transformation, even if it was or a short time.  It was a Thursday afternoon.  Grant was at a play date at a friends' house and then he was going to parkour.  I shared a chair with Morgan as I helped her with her homework.  This day was different than all the other times I have helped her with her homework. I turned the phone off and was fully attentive.  I was patient with her and we laughed and completed her homework rather quickly.  Then she looked up at me with those big blue eyes and said, "Mom, do you have anything else you need to do right now?"  Doesn't Mom always have something to do.  That's all she knows...a busy mom who rushes from thing to things....all good things...but not the best.  I sat for a second before responding and then said, "nope, I don't have anything to do except to spend time with you girls!"  She looked both surprised and excited and without hesitation she said, "great, you can come outside and play with us!"  And so we did.  We hula hooped, we jump roped, we laughed and we danced.  It was one of those moments I will remember forever. It was perfect. We had forty-five minutes of uninterrupted, amazing fun.  The smiles in these pictures say everything.
